Upgrading from Vista 3.2 to Vista HRMS 4.0 is relatively straight-forward because we've
fine-tuned the process during the beta testing timeframe. Here's a brief summary of what you'll need:
You will need to schedule the installation of the 4.0 environment. This may include the External Applicants component, if you wish. We will also install VistaFresh, our new PTF utility that will help notify you of Vista updates and facilitate applying the updates to your database environments.
Technically there are some changes that you will need to prepare for prior to the installation. For example .NET 3.5 is, and Crystal XI, Release 2, Service Pack 2 is required in this version due to .NET 3.5 compatibility. If you have not yet upgraded to Crystal XI, it will be necessary to do so in the Vista HRMS 4.0 environment. Visit the PDS Support site, “What's new”, to view a .pdf file containing the configuration requirements.
There were a variety of database table additions and some changes, due to improvements in recruiting, check calculator, web administration, web monitor, associated parties and contacts, for example. To facilitate the migration we have prepared database scripts to move the data easily Visit the PDS Support site, “What's new”, to view a spreadsheet containing the DB differences file.
Training-wise you must schedule a 1-day differences course to review the many application differences and additional features. Visit the PDS Support site, “What's new”, to view a .pdf file containing the Vista HRMS release notes.
As far as how much time will be needed, that will depend on a number of factors such as;
Availability of internal resources (IT support, project management),
The number of customizations you have in place. Each will need to be analyzed and possibly optimized using tools available in the latest release. Web changes will be impacted by the new .NET environment.
Other projects incorporated into the upgrade, (for example: deploying self-service, utilizing workflow, implementing Recruiting, etc.)
We have continued to apply updates based upon feedback that we have received and have already published PTF (programming temporary fixes) for the release. PTFs will continue as we correct and continue to enhance the new version.
Please check out the “Migrating to the Latest Version” session prepared for our User Group Conference. This will help clarify many of the individual application differences between Vista 3.2 and Vista 4.0.
