The Challenge
We faced the opportunity to streamline operations and improve efficiency across multiple locations and companies, but the challenge was significant. Implementing a new system during the COVID-19 pandemic required ensuring compatibility with our custom setups and transitioning from older configurations to a new integrated solution. Despite these hurdles, the move promised to enhance our operational workflow and set a new standard for efficiency across our entire organization.

About Qualico Steel
Qualico Steel was founded in 1976 to provide quality structural steel fabrication and erection to owners and general contractors primarily in small commercial projects within a 100 mile radius Webb, Alabama. Qualico Steel quickly made a name for prompt service, honesty and quality. In 1984, they started a planned growth process and concentrated their efforts on medium size commercial and industrial projects throughout the Southeastern United States. From their success in the market, they have grown into a major structural steel manufacturer of medium to large industrial and commercial projects specializing in fast-track projects and high labor specialty fabrication and painting. Qualico Steel’s services include complete engineering, complete line of efficient fabrication, top of the line blasting and cleaning equipment included within our 474,000 square foot fabrication and painting facility.
In 1995, Qualico established a second fabrication facility in Midlothian, Texas. This 104,500 square foot facility is located next door to a steel mill and enables them to better service their projects in other parts of the country.

How do you use Vista?
Our implementation journey began with transitioning to Vista, supported by the dedicated PDS team. We leveraged a range of powerful features, including HR and payroll management, benefits administration, and DocuSign integration for new hire packets. The next-gen payroll and benefits enrollment capabilities have streamlined these critical processes. A centralized communication hub, complete with news feeds and notifications, has enhanced our internal communication. The integration with Twilio for mass texting has been invaluable during emergencies, while project management with Smartsheet has improved our workflows. Visual configuration with custom icons and employee self-service for accessing internal and external content, including benefits, have further optimized our operations.
The Results
Our transition to Vista has brought significant improvements in operational efficiency and accuracy, saving time previously spent on backend configurations. Enhanced communication and employee engagement have been achieved through the centralized hub, while expanded learning centers and custom training within the Vista platform support our growth. Emergency communication is now more effective with mass texting capabilities for emergencies and closures. Streamlined workflows have reduced manual errors and improved project management. Additionally, the user experience has been enhanced through visual configuration and easy access to benefits.
